Eivind Bøe Drejer
Eivind Bøe Drejer holds a PhD in Microbial Biotechnology and a MSc in Systems Biology. He has worked as a research scientist at CIRiS since 2025. Research activities are focused on biological life support systems for space exploration, controlled environment agriculture and biotechnology.
One area of particular interest is the use of beneficial microorganisms to increase the productivity and resilience of plants in controlled environment agriculture and the use or development of electrochemical sensor technologies to enable real time, in-line monitoring of bioprocesses. Developments in these areas will greatly benefit controlled plant cultivation and bioprocesses on Earth and in the extremely resource limited habitats used for manned space exploration where resource recycling and in situ food and oxygen production are essential.
Outside of biological life support systems and controlled environment agriculture Eivind has experience working as a research scientist within microbiologist in the food and beverage industry with insights into food safety principles, fermentation and process monitoring at pilot and commercial scales.
